The Ampner founders have a strong background in power electronics. At the early stage of his career Pasi Törmänen worked, among others, with frequency converter development at ABB and Vacon. This experience generated later a company called Verteco, where Pasi was a co-founder and where Mika Jantunen soon joined. Verteco was later merged with a couple of other energy technology companies, giving birth to a success story The Switch, known especially as a wind power expert.

After leaving The Switch, Pasi and Mika dreamed of starting something new. They founded Ampner and began a journey towards a totally unknown territory, without any committed customers but with a solid trust for their own ideas.

The founders believed that their experience as pioneers in developing new type of wind power plants would be an asset in the renewable energy business. They first provided expert services but were all the time aware of the fact that the bigger growth targets are met only by own scalable products. For this, Vaasa region offered and still offers excellent possibilities.

Pasi and Mika comment: “ We aim at growing Ampner to become a globally recognized company. Already during Verteco/The Switch period we worked globally and do not imagine that the market would be located only in Finland. Here too, the Vaasa region provides a globally thinking and networking business environment.

We want to offer our employees a stimulating and encouraging company with possibilities for personal development, and additionally an option for entrepreneurship.”
